Bandon Primary Schools Cross Country

A massive congratulations to the boys and girls from the Senior Room who took part in the Primary Schools Cross Country race in Bandon today.  Each child ran exceptionally well and they did their school very proud.  A special well done to  Chloe, Darragh, Elaina and Gearóid who came home with medals.

Welcome Back

Welcome back to all our pupils at Ahiohill National School, especially to the Junior Infants who have just completed their very first week.

  • The parents association will be hosting a ‘welcome coffee morning’ next Friday September 13th at 9:15 AM in the old school/ hall for any parents/guardians of the new Junior Infants.

  • Rugby training has started and it will take place every Thursday for 6 weeks for children in 1st-6th class.

  • Well done to all the children who were involved in planting and creating the vegetable garden last year. Pupils from 4th, 5th and 6th class picked the carrots and onions this week and they were delicious!

Back to School

Hello everyone!

I hope you all had a very enjoyable summer break. Just an update on a few items in preparation for returning to school next week.

  • Firstly, we would like to extend a huge congratulations to Mrs Hodnett and her family on the birth of their new baby boy, Olan.

  • Best wishes to Mrs Desmond who recently retired from Ahiohill National School. We are all extremely grateful to have worked beside you and wish you well on the next chapter of your life.

  • Welcome to Ms Swanton who will be covering SET for a few weeks and welcome back to Ms Maguire who will be teaching 1st, 2nd and 3rd class. Mrs Duane will be teaching 4th, 5th and 6th class and Ms Kelly will be teaching Junior and Senior Infants.

New Infants

  • We look forward to welcoming 14 Junior Infants next Monday. Junior Infants will be finishing at 12 noon for the first two weeks and 1:55 PM for the remainder of the year.

  • Please make sure to label all books, school uniforms, lunch boxes and bottles.

  • Children can be dropped off from 9 AM and school starts at 9:15 AM. Senior Infants will finish at 1:55 PM and 1st-6th class will finish at 2:55 PM.

  • At collection times, Junior and Senior Infants can be picked up from the front gate of the school, 1st-6th class can be collected from the back/side gate.

We look forward to seeing you all again on Monday September 2nd.

June News Update

We have been very busy here at Ahiohill National School- The following are some news updates:

  • A huge congratulations to everyone who took part in the Cork City Sports. It was a very successful day as we brought home 4 trophies. Special congratulations to Chloe, Amie, Gearóid and Pádraig.

  • 1st-6th Class have now completed their 6 week swimming block in Dunmanway swimming pool. Thank you to all the instructors. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their lessons, learned something new and gained more confidence in the water.

  • Norina and Oskar are two students who will be helping out in each of the classrooms for the month of June. They are studying primary school teaching in Switzerland.

  • There are a number of important dates over the coming month to take note of:

    -June 11th- Internet safety workshop for pupils and parents (evening)

    -June 13th- 6th class graduation

    -June 17th/18th- New infants in for morning

    -June 21st- School sports day

    -June 23rd- RSA workshop

    -June 26th-Summer Holidays

Reminder: School Tour

The 1st-6th Class school tour takes place tomorrow (Tuesday May 28th) in The Glen Resource Centre. The bus will be leaving school at 8:45 am sharp and will return for home time as usual. Children can wear their school tracksuit and it is also very important to either apply sunscreen before coming to school or bring it with them on the day. Please bring a packed lunch and plenty of water for the exciting day ahead!

'Help my kid learn'

Help my kid learn is a national Irish strategy developed by the Department of Education and Skills. It aims to promote and improve the development of literacy and numeracy. It is a very easy, educational website to use in school or at home and all activities are free. Here are some directions for use:

Step 1: Click on link http://www.helpmykidlearn.ie/

Step 2: Choose age category at top of the page (0-2, 3-4, 5-7, 8-9, 10-12).

Step 3: Choose topic: Talk, play, read, write or count.

Step 4: Choose an activity.

Walking bus

The walking bus will take place on Friday May 10th and May 17th.

Children are to be dropped to Ahiohill GAA grounds wearing a hi vis top.

We will be leaving at 8:45 weather permitting.

Swimming

Swimming lessons have started this week for 1st-6th class in Dunmanway swimming pool.

Lessons will be taking place every Wednesday for the next 5 weeks. (6 lessons in total)

Reminder: Children will need to bring swimming suit, towel, swimming hat and goggles every Wednesday.
