Aistear: Doctor's surgery

The Infants took part in the Doctor’s surgery for the month of January. A big thank you to Mary Ahern, who came in and gave us a fantastic workshop which the children thoroughly enjoyed. We did 4 stations for this theme as the role-play station was very busy and it gave everyone a chance to try all the roles.

Workshop: Importance of personal hygiene-washing hands/ sneezing and coughing. How to take blood pressure, check for breathing, applying a plaster or bandage and lots more!

Construction: Designing and building a hospital, doctor’s surgery, helicopter/ ambulance landing location, building and dressing a bed for the A & E.

Junk Art: Created x-ray pictures using black sugar paper and chalk, made get well soon cards and posters for what is in the doctors bag.

Small World: Variety of scenarios in relation to emergency situations/ accidents and what steps should follow.

Role-play: Acting out the different roles- doctor, nurse, surgeon, optician, receptionist, pharmacist; Different injuries- minor/ accident and emergency. Writing patient records and prescriptions.
